KOJIC ACID

Kojic acid is a naturally derived compound produced by certain fungi and is also a byproduct of fermented rice. In skincare, it is primarily used as a brightening agent. Kojic acid works by inhibiting melanin production, the pigment responsible for dark spots and uneven skin tone. This makes it especially effective for treating hyperpigmentation, melasma, age spots, and acne scars. It is often found in serums, creams, and facial masks, and can be a gentler alternative to hydroquinone. However, it should be used with sun protection, as it can make the skin more sensitive to UV damage.
